Both can be fun and lovable, but ghosts and children shouldn’t be given free access to each other. Why keep a GhostBox out of children’s reach? Find out here.
Ghosts and children are one of those things that should never mix. Some say children are more perceptive to supernatural forces, and in turn, more receptive of them.
We say that you don’t want to accidentally punt your child down the hall when they appear out of the darkness and stare at you with cryptic mutterings. The chances of that are high enough with normal child behavior if they’re sleepy enough, and it won’t get any better if there’s a haunted pet directly involved.
We recommend you always keep your GhostBox out of the reach of children. That doesn’t mean you can’t keep a child in the house while you’re keeping a ghost too, but it does mean you need to exercise some basic safety measures.
Don’t worry - it’s the same kind you’d exercise with anything delicate, like an heirloom vase, or with a will of its own, like a Pomeranian. GhostBoxes are just more fun (and shed less).
Why Should I Keep My GhostBox Away From Children?
If you leave your GhostBox in the reach of a child, stuff could go awry in three major ways:
1. They could break it
The sigils that encase your box are powerful, but they’re also delicate. They can withstand time and light wear, but they won’t do much against sticky spaghetti fingers, because they weren’t designed to. That would be a really weird thing to design them to.
Aside from the whole “breach of containment” thing, it could also leave your box stained, bent, or ripped, and then you’d have an ugly decoration on top of a critical haunting. Double bummer.
2. They could communicate
Kids are impressionable, and stranger danger is a real thing. Nothing is stranger than a creature which cannot be fully understood, with unlife experience that may not be appropriate for small ears.
Ghosts are obviously capable of being friendly and polite in the right conditions, but since you won’t be able to know what’s being said and when, it’s best to keep the box out of reach. Children are rumored to be more perceptive of ghostly messages than adults, so there’s a high chance you’ll be left out, even if you’re listening in.
Possible bad outcomes aside, that’ll likely get under your skin, and getting jealous of an eight-year-old isn’t a good look.
3. They could upset the ghost
Children are also rumored to be friendly and polite in the right conditions, but you can’t guarantee that either. A ghost in contact with a child can have negative effects.
Unpredictability. Unsettling sounds. Marks that can’t be interpreted. The emergence of a disturbing smell. A lasting sense of unease – all things a child can cause, and this may upset your ghost. To keep your spooky pet calm, happy, and balanced, limit its contact with kiddos.

Can I Have A GhostBox In A House With Kids?
Of course, all that doesn’t mean ghost-keeping is off-limits if you have children in the house. The box does, indeed, safely contain the ghost and limits its influence on the world around it. So, as long as the ghost is out of a child’s reach and can’t be properly interacted with by little ones, it’s perfectly safe.
You’re the one bonding with the pet ghost and handling all its care, so it will only acknowledge you and your space. The kid won’t even know it’s there, and the ghost will ignore the strange presence too.
Can Children Be Supervised With A GhostBox?
It’s fine if children see the GhostBox and appreciate it from afar. You can share stories of the ghost’s behavior and use it as a great learning opportunity about wider existence, acceptance of others, and proper caretaking habits.
However, you should not let a child touch or speak with the ghost, even with supervision. Once again, more may go on at that point than you’re able to perceive. For obvious ethical reasons, we haven’t been able to test what that is. But speculation around the water-cooler has been pretty interesting. Or disgusting. Depends on who you ask.
The point is, GhostBoxes are strictly adult-only. Treat them right, and they’ll be a great addition to your family.
