Age restricted ghosts might sound like a joke, but it’s very serious business. If you want to buy a ghost (especially one in a box), then you must be at least 18 years of age.
This may seem unfair to those who are younger and still want to experience a slice of the ethereal. We get it, believe us! Ghosts are fascinating and great, and we do of course trust our customers to be perfectly sensible human beings who would never do harm to anyone on purpose - especially not when dealing with a spectral entity.
But we must draw the line somewhere, and 18 it is. That age means all our smart and responsible spooky fans out there are of age in their respective countries. If you are not of age by your country’s standards, then you will need to wait until you are.
Why Do You Have To Be 18 To Buy A GhostBox?
You must, at the very least, be a certified grownup for ghost ownership to be the right choice for you. A ghost is an entity very carefully bound by complicated and innovative sigil-work, which does not prevent it from influencing the outside of the box. It can and will let its personality shine through (in a totally safe manner if the sigils are undamaged).
Your ghost is a (functionally) living being that deserves care and respect, even love. As such, this decision isn’t made on a whim. The age cap is decided based on two categories that come along with ghost keeping:
The Proper Physical Care Of The Ghost
Yeah, hard to do when ghosts aren’t physical beings, but it’s important! The box itself needs to be properly cared for, so your ghost stays properly sealed. No gnawing on it, no using it in a game of keep-away, and no falling asleep with in in your bed where you can roll onto it. The same rules that apply to getting a cat or a lemur apply to ghosts: children shouldn’t get unfettered access to a living creature (and unliving counts for double).
For example, you don’t want to open the box on a whim because you didn’t bother reading the instructions. That would let loose an entity that is absolutely better suited for staying boxed. Sure, adults can do that too, but at least you can be legally liable for your own actions. We can’t allow minors, who can’t consent, to undertake that kind of risk (consent is very important!).
The Proper Emotional Care Of The Ghost
When you get a GhostBox, you are buying a living (kind of) entity full of opinions, and wants, and a potential desire for mischief and mayhem. At a minimum, we need to know that you are in the age bracket where it’s expected that you can handle that responsibility. Expectations of you include:
- The ability to bond with the ghost on its own level
- Spending time with it consistently
- Being respectful of its personality and habits
- Adjusting your lifestyle to fit in neatly with your new companion
- Calmly handling any chance of a GhostBox breach (and contacting our support team)
These are all things that an emotionally mature adult is better able to do. Of course, even as a proper grownup, if you don’t feel up to the task, you should wait until you do or avoid buying a ghost. There’s no shame in recognizing if a certain kind of relationship is right for you – especially a supernatural one.
Only Legal Adults Can Be Ghost Owners
As purveyors of fine spirits, it is our duty to ensure that our spectrals don’t end up in the wrong hands. But, as with any other business selling functionally living things, there is only so much we can do to ensure they have a good and safe future in their new homes. The age restriction is one of those methods. (Hunting spectral abusers down is another. But let’s not go there.)
